This project supports the mobility of teachers of UNIMI Depts. of Medicine and of the School of Health and Human Sciences (SHHS), Pwani University (PU) in both ways, considering that the shortage of qualified health workers in low-income countries makes ‘on-the-job’ health training one of the most pressing issues of care and treatment.

Goal

To foster the education of new generations of medical doctors.

Objectives

  • To improve the knowledge of PU teachers in several medical fields such as preclinical, emergency neurology, public health, and physiology.
  • To strengthen collaboration between the two institutions, facilitate the exchange of learning skills, and promote the professional development of participants.

Activities

  • Teaching activities, for specific subjects also “teach-the-teachers” activities.
  • Comparing and discussing different methodologies and organizational approaches
  • Clinical training activities

Impact

  • Kenyan students will benefit from extra lectures from visiting staff and will get experience in managing conditions that are not so common in their country. This will ensure they become all rounded doctors, who can treat also tourists and immigrants they come across in their country.
  • Professors and researchers will enhance their ability to collaborate with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, while they acquire new teaching methodologies, refine their skills, and deepen their scientific understanding of diseases across different regions and social contexts.
  • UniMi staff will be able to diversify and enrich their research portfolios by meeting and exchanging ideas with the local and international researchers who conduct their activities at PU.
  • Local Kenyan community will benefit when it comes to healthcare due to this collaboration.
