Empowering African institutions to deliver high-quality education

The University of Milan (UniMi) is actively spearheading educational initiatives designed to strengthen academic cooperation between Italian and African institutions. Within the framework of UnItAfrica, a project implemented by Italian Universities (UI) within the University Network for Development Cooperation (CUCS) aimed at promoting joint training, research and international academic cooperation with universities on the African continent, UniMI has recently conducted specialized training in Milan and Mozambique focusing on sustainable development and professional advancement.

UniMi was among the organizers of “PhyGreen- PYthon tools for the GREEN Transition”, a multidisciplinary training program aimed to promote the use of open-source programming to address environmental challenges like groundwater and energy management. The training, held online and in presence in three sessions between December 2025 and January 2026, targeted 20 early-career academics from eight African countries.

Simultaneously, faculty teams travelled to the Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM) to lead intensive workshops on writing scientific papers, grant application and management for 20 academic and administrative staff, and on basic point-of-care abdominal and thoracic ultrasonography skills for 22 medical staff from the UCM and three local clinics.
