The University of Milan has been awarded another Erasmus+ KA171 in the biomedical field.
The project, in partnership with Pwani University, based in Kilifi on the Kenyan coast, aims at training and improving the skill of teaching staff at the School of Health and Human Sciences of the Kenyan university.
The project started with a first mission to Kilifi in the first two weeks of February 2026, conducted by prof.Stefania Recalcati, Rector’s Delegate for International Health Cooperation, prof.Maria Paola Canevini, Professor of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Addictions at ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo, and prof. Giovanni Felisati, Professor of Otorhinolaryngology, Director of the School of Specialization in Otorhinolaryngology and of the Head and Neck Department at ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo.
During the mission, medical students of the first three years were engaged in lectures, and several meetings were held with university governance and faculty members of the Medical School to design a fruitful collaboration.

UniMi delegates also met with representatives of World Friends, a civil society organization already active in Kilifi and collaborating with Pwani University and signed an agreement that fits perfectly within this collaborative program.

During the mission, the delegation took part in the inauguration of the new maternity ward at the Malindi Sub-County Hospital, supported by AICS (Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo) and World Friends. This facility will help strengthen maternal and child healthcare in a high-maternal-mortality area. The event was also attended by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini.
