Mario (Mago) Clerici graduated from Medical School at the University of Milan and trained for more than 7 years (1987-95) at the NIH in Bethesda; in the meantime he received a PhD in internal medicine. He became an associate professor of Immunology and Immunopathology at the University of Milan in 1993 and was promoted to full professor in 1999. Since 2008 he has coordinated the research of the SM Nascente Research Foundation, Don C Gnocchi IRCCS. He directed the PhD School in Molecular and Translational Medicine at the University of Milan from 2008 to 2016 and the Department of Physiopathology and Transplantations at the same University between 2017 and 2023. He authored more than 750 papers (>45,000 citations; H index>105), has been awarded many National and International prizes, received the Honorary Citizenship of New Orleans (LA, USA), is a knight of the Italian Republic, and is one of the most cited Italian scientists worldwide.
